Samsung Galaxy S3 Release Runs Into Battery Problems (Solution and How to Fix)

The Samsung Galaxy S3 is the most eagerly anticipated smartphone release of the year to date, as millions wait for pre-orders to be fulfilled and stocks to be replenished. However, some reports have emerged about a battery problem with Samsung's flagship smartphone.

The reported problem affects the international version of the Samsung Galaxy S3, and has caused the device to use up excessive amounts of battery when it is in standby mode. However, Galaxy fans should not be too concerned as XDA forums have found that it is "miscalculation of power used rather than the actual power usage."

It has been found that the Standby feature was the core of the problem, and some have commented that the drain value in framework-res.apk file is mistakenly set to 34 mA, instead of 3.4 mA. The typo or miscalculation results in 50 to 70 present more battery consumption than should ordinarily be shown.

So it's more an indicator problem than a battery problem as such. And users need not worry as developers have already come out with a simple way to fix the problem for those experiencing the issue.

Simply updating the "power_profile.xml" file in framework-res package solves the problem.

Samsung has not come out with any official statement as yet to address the issue, and it may stay that way for the moment as the fix is relatively simple and is already being promoted across blogs on the Internet. However, it is expected that Samsung will release their own fix when it releases its second over the air update for the Galaxy S3 in the near future.

For those experiencing the issue the user should download the updated file (510kb) from MediaFire. The file should be saved to the microSD card or internal storage. The user should then reboot the Samsung Galaxy S3 device into ClockWork Mod (CWM) Recovery mode. If the user then chooses to "Install zip from sdcard" and select the downloaded file the healing process should begin. All the user then has to do is reboot the smartphone and voila the apparent battery issue should be resolved.
