Samsung Galaxy S7 Specs: Next Iteration May Feature Pressure-Sensitive Screen, High-Charging Port

Samsung Galaxy S7 may feature a pressure-sensitive display and a faster charging port when it officially launches in March 2016.

The South Korean tech giant is also planning to include a retina scanner to some Samsung Galaxy S7 versions, sources familiar with the matter said. Aside from the rumored pressure-sensitive display and high-speed charging port, the upcoming flagship phone will also share some features with the Galaxy S6, according to The Wall Street Journal.

The said sources also mentioned a version called the Galaxy S7 Edge that will sport a curved display. This premium version, along with the original model, will be unveiled during the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona in February and will be released in the United States in mid-March, the report details.

The new rumors about the Galaxy S7's features come at a time when Samsung needs to regain its customers' interest after the Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 Edge did not help much to improve the company's smartphone sales. The firm is currently struggling to compete with low-budget Chinese smartphones and Apple's iPhones, so it is now under pressure to come up with a more enticing flagship device next year, CNET reports.

The rumored pressure-sensitive display is similar to what Apple has added to the iPhone 6s this year. This feature allows the device to respond to the way the user taps or presses the screen, the report explains.

The USB Type-C port, on the other hand, allows the phone to be fully charged in less than 30 minutes. This high-speed charging port has already been seen in smartphones launched by other manufacturers including Huawei Technologies Co. and LG Electronics Co.

Other rumored specs and features of the Samsung Galaxy S7 include a microSD card slot and an improved camera that can take quality photos even in low light.

So far, Samsung has remained mum on the rumored specs and features of the Galaxy S7. More details on the upcoming flagship smartphone are expected to surface next year.
