Samsung Galaxy S7 Release News: MicroSD Slot to Return in Flagship Phone?

Samsung Galaxy S7 may showcase the return of the microSD slot in the South Korean tech giant's flagship smartphone.

The decision to bring back the microSD slot came after Samsung was criticized for allegedly copying Apple's strategy in creating flagship units. Now, rumor has it that the microSD slot will be included in the Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 Edge, which will be launched in February next year, according to Neuro Gadget.

Most likely, the two newest flagship units will be released at the Unpacking event on Feb. 21, 2016, the report adds.

Mobile phone leaker Evan Blass posted a Twitter status saying AT&T is conducting tests for the two new Galaxy S7 variants. The post fueled rumors that the flagship units will immediately be available after release, the report details.

"AT&T already testing both Galaxy S7 variants (SM-G930A and -G935A), adding weight to rumors of an early- to mid-1Q16 release," Latinos Health quotes Bass' statement on Twitter.

There are reports saying the Galaxy S7 model will run on the new Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 chipset and the Exynos 8890. The chipset to be included in the smartphone will depend on the region and the carrier.
Samsung's next flagship phones will boast of 5.2-inch and 5.7-inch displays, but the exact appearances of the S7 and S7 Edge are still unconfirmed. Nevertheless, rumors say both units will have a curved edge display, according to a Know Your Mobile report cited by LH.

Other rumored specs and features of the Samsung Galaxy S7 are a USB Type C port, 4 GB of RAM, and an impressive 20-megapixel Britecell-based rear camera. Reports on the Chinese social network Weibo are talking about Samsung trying to convince seal a deal to use Sony's IMX300 23 MP sensor, which is present in the Xperia Z5, the report details.

So far, there is no confirmation about Samsung's plan to use its own ISOCELL technology for its cameras. More details about the Samsung Galaxy S7 are expected to emerge as the release date approaches.
