Samsung Galaxy S7 Rumors: New-Gen Phone To Arrive With An Iris Scanner; Phone Maker Projects To Produce 5 Million Units
The reported new generation of Samsung's premium smartphone line, the Samsung Galaxy S7, is said to arrive with a new feature that could give it an eye-popping price tag. Meanwhile, new reports indicate the company's initial production plans.
In a report from PhoneArena.com, the South Korean tech giant is planning to amp up the price of the alleged next-gen device. Citing the well-known tech tipster, Evan Blass, the company is targeting to release four variants of the 2016 flagship model. This will include the Samsung Galaxy S7, the Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge, Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge Plus, and the Samsung Galaxy S7 Plus.
The price hike, according to the report, will be brought by the integration of the iris scanner, which the Samsung Galaxy S6 maker plans on including in its future devices.
Phone Arena explained that the new feature will give users the convenience to access their handsets, verify their identities, and make necessary transactions, just by staring at the scanner.
Unlike the fingerprint scanner, the iris scanner is considered to be the more "precise type of biometrics available," the media outlet wrote.
And while the inclusion of the said hi-tech phone function is yet to be duly confirmed by the company, a report from Reuters.com gave hints of Samsung's initial production plans for the S7 and its succeeding variants.
According to the publication, the smartphone maker is looking into producing "about 5 million" of the new handset.
The media outlet specifically pointed out the two different versions of the new flagship inclusive of the production target. These are the Galaxy S7, which will have a 5.2-inch flat-screen version, and the Galaxy S7 Edge, which will don a 5.5-inch curved-screen version of the phone. The first mentioned device will have 3.3 million units available while the latter will comprise the rest of the numbers.
Samsung is expected to unveil their newest products on February 21, 2016, during the Samsung Unpacked 2016 event and before the MWC week in Barcelona.
