Samsung Nexus Prime Release Date: Google Cancels Launch Event in Honor of Steve Jobs

Moments after the announcement from Samsung and Google canceling their media event for its new smartphone and operating system, rumors then surfaced saying that the event will take place on Oct. 27.

Earlier this week, Samsung released a teaser video that fed the speculation surrounding the new "Nexus Prime" smartphone and "Ice Cream Sandwich" operating software. Samsung and Google were then set to premiere these new products at a media event scheduled for Oct. 11. The event's title was "Samsung Nexus Prime Unpacked."

Earlier this morning, it was then revealed that the event was postponed.

The prevailing reason for the cancellation was caused by the recent passing of former Apple CEO Steve Jobs. Both companies confirmed that this was indeed true in a later statement: “We believe this is not the right time to announce a new product as the world expresses tribute to Steve Jobs’s passing."

New rumors then came to light as it pertains to the event's new date and location. TheNextWeb reported that the new launch date of Samsung's "Nexus Prime" and Google's "Ice Cream Sandwich" would be Oct. 27.

The press conference for both companies was reportedly going to take place in London. The "Galaxy Nexus" smartphone was also rumored to be the device that would make its grand debut at this rescheduled press event.

Pocket-lint then quelled the rumors through some information taken from a group of inside sources. While a Samsung press conference will indeed take place on Oct. 27 in London, the official unveiling of the "Nexus Prime" and "Ice Cream Sandwich" won't happen there.

No new date for the media event has been made as of yet. Samsung Telecommunications America's Director of Public Relations Kim Titus told Pocket-lint that, "We have no information on a future date for the event."

This latest bit of news about Samsung's "Nexus Prime" smartphone joins today's leaked video footage of the device itself. A videographer posted a video of himself testing out the device's several features and specifications.
