San Antonio Spurs News: 2014 MVP Admits Still Driving His Old Chevy Tahoe Ride
While most high profile basketball players are recognized for their lavish lifestyle detailed with expensive sports cars, big mansions, and outlandish parties, Kawhi Leonard, the phenomenal power forward of San Antonio Spurs, is a different story.
It has recently been revealed by Sports Illustrated correspondent Lee Jenkins, in their somewhat rare interview that the 2014 MVP still drives his 1997 Chevy Tahoe which he lovingly calls "Gas Guzzler."
"It runs," the 24-year-old said, "and it's paid off."

Aside from his devotion to the two decades-old SUV, the NBA's 2015 Defensive Player of the Year, is more than happy to sponsor Wingstop, a chain of restaurant that features Buffalo style chicken wings. In exchange, the company would send him coupons that entitled him for free wings. Jenkins revealed that in winter, right after he signed his $94 million contract with the Spurs, he panicked when he lost his coupons. He was sent with new stubs.
SI cited Spurs Head Coach Gregg Popovich speaking about the star player. According to the 67-year-old, the only thing that is in Leonard's head is the game itself. All other else, the fame and the money, didn't really matter.
"He wants the greatness badly," Popovich was quoted as saying by the publication. "He doesn't give a damn about the stardom."
The 6 ft 7 in. player abhors the public life. One of the manifestations is his inactivity in the social media world. It would be a rare occasion when fans can catch him on sites like Twitter, Facebook or Instagram. Even in real life events like photo shoots, red carpets, or award ceremonies, if it's not necessary, he won't come.
"He loves the game. He ignores the rest of it," Popovich added.
The LA-based athlete played college basketball for San Diego State University before being picked by the Indiana Pacers in the 2011 NBA draft. Spurs sent point guard George Hill on draft night for trade and the rest was history.
