San Antonio Spurs Trade News: Pitching for Tony Snell Would Make a Lot of Sense

The Chicago Bulls defeated the San Antonio Spurs 92-89 last Monday to end the latter's winning streak at four. The game also gave the Spurs a closer look at one of the Bulls' most underrated players, Tony Snell.

Fred Hoiberg's squad is currently third in the Eastern Conference at 11-7 and will need superstar Derrick Rose to be healthy for them to contend in the playoffs once again. The Spurs, on the other hand, is a retooled team with high championship aspirations. The addition of LaMarcus Aldridge and David West boosted their frontline, which already features the ageless Tim Duncan. But what the Spurs would certainly welcome adding at this point is someone who can help Kawhi Leonard in defending the wing, while the Bulls would want someone who will serve as a more than decent backup to Rose at point guard.

With that in mind, it could very well be a sensible deal to have the 24-year-old Snell transfer to the Spurs, along with another player from the Bulls, in exchange for say, Patty Mills. This one definitely makes perfect sense if the only consideration is the position where both teams really need help.

Snell is no doubt a budding two-way player who can make an impact every night. He is as solid as Leonard in some aspects and he only needs more time to develop in a better system like the Spurs. If the Bulls get Patty Mills, they finally will get someone who plays point but also can score in bunches. Well, the Australian, if not for Tony Parker, has the caliber of a starting point guard for any contender. In a Bulls uniform, he will still be a backup to Rose, but knowing how fragile the former MVP's knees are, it should be a very interesting idea for coach Hoiberg to have almost the same level of explosiveness from Mills. Of course, he's not in the same stature and talent as Rose, but sure he could be a good complement or backup.

But in reality, there's really no way for both teams to even get close to talking about this, unless of course their fortunes change all of a sudden and they start losing consecutive games, more like what's happening with the Houston Rockets and the Philadelphia 76ers.
