'Scandal' Season 5 Spoilers: Annabeth Gish of 'The X-Files' Fame Gets Recurring Role
Television drama series "Scandal" is all set to return to the small screen for its season 5 opening. But before it could make its way back, reports indicate that a new face will be joining the show. According to a report by Deadline, "The X-Files" star Annabeth Gish has signed on for a recurring role on "Scandal."
There are no details yet on what role Gish will be playing as it is being kept under wraps, just as how it is with any Shonda Rhimes series. However, there are speculations based on the spoilers for season 5. Australia Network detailed that when the show returns, there will be a six-month time jump following the events of the mid-season finale. By that time, the presidential primary election will be intensifying.
With that being said, Cartermatt speculated that Gish could be someone who needs the assistance of Olivia Hope (Kerry Washington) and Associates. She could also play as a fixer who will aid President Grant (Tony Goldwyn) finish his second term as smoothly as possible, with his name completely clean before stepping down from his position.

It's also speculated that Gish could play as an opponent for Mellie (Bellamy Young) on the Republican side or she could also be a challenger on the Democratic side. It may be possible that a presidential rivalry plot will take place since the TV series is known for occasionally taking stories from real life. Gish could play a role that is inspired by 2016 American presidential candidate Carly Fiorina who is a strong and influential businesswoman. Another strong woman to run against Mellie would surely make her upset and wanting to do everything in her power to get what she wants.
Gish's other credit include FX's "The Bridge," "Sons of Anarchy" and "Pretty Little Liars," among others.
"Scandal" season 5B will premiere on Thursday, Feb. 11 at 9 p.m. on ABC.
