Fans may be convinced that Sean Penn and Minka Kelly are dating as news emerged about the two allegedly cozying up in last Wednesday's cancer research gala but there's one Hollywood expert who isn't convinced about an alleged romance between the two.
During the launch of Sean Parker's Institute for Cancer Immunotherapy foundation, Penn and Kelly sparked rumors of a romance after they were snapped together in one table. However, a source told Hollywood expert Perez Hilton that the speculations should be taken with a grain of salt.
The incident was reportedly a misunderstanding by those who saw the now viral photo. "Sean stopped by Minka's table to say hi and was there for five minutes and they snapped a pic," the source clarified.

Multiple outlets reported that there could probably be an atmosphere of love forming between the two as further reports emerged the next day stating that the pair were spotted partying until late at night.
According to Entertainment Tonight, an insider said the two partied until around 2 AM and they were also seen hanging out together outside the gala's location.
Hilton believes Penn and Kelly may just be messing around with fans since this isn't the first time they were rumored to be dating. Also, the insider said the 35-year-old actress isn't one who likes the attention whenever she starts dating someone. "The fact that she let them take a pic is indicative of the fact that they're not dating. She's never let a photog take a pic of her with anyone she's ever dated," the source explained.
Kelly and Penn first sparked rumors of a romantic relationship after reports came out last year regarding the two spending the "Friday Night Lights" star's birthday together in a luxurious dinner party. Kelly immediately brushed off the speculations and said on social media that she's not dating the 55-year-old actor.
E! News reported at that time that the pair were actually part of a group and there was a lack of evidence regarding the issue on Penn purportedly romancing the younger actress.
Apparently, the rumor stayed hot for a couple of weeks, especially since Penn has just announced his split with Charlize Theron at that time.
