'Shadowhunters' News, Spoilers: Show Boss Ed Decter Sheds Details On Show Ahead Of Series Premiere

"Shadowhunters," the latest small screen adaptation of Cassandra Clare's young adult book series "The Mortal Instruments," is now just a few hours away from airing its premiere on Freeform, formerly known as ABC Family. Amidst the excitement, an interview with executive producer Ed Decter divulged some essential details about the upcoming show.

Decter, who is also serving as the showrunner, told KSiteTV.com that the series will be "borrowing liberally from the whole canon" and will not only be based on a particular book. The reason behind is the books' complexity.

"It's a fairly complicated world, so we need to expand a little bit from the storytelling that Cassandra did in the books, for the simple reason that she stays very, very close to Clary [played by Katherine McNamara], and we learn about a lot of the larger things that happened in the world through discussions with Clary, and we, of course, have to show those things," the EP was quoted as saying.

Nonetheless, the writers are trying their best to keep "hitting the giant landmarks" of the story so as not to disappoint, especially those who are avid readers of the novels.

He did, however, specify that should the series be greenlighted for a Season 2, it would be more than likely that it will cover most of Book Two and Book Three.

Would the show bring in some elements from the prequel series, "The Infernal Devices"? Decter confirmed that they might have to especially when they need to unravel some "artifact or a history between the families, or things like that."

The show boss, meanwhile, shared his opinion on casting McNamara for the lead role. According to him, the 20-year-old meets "Cassandra's vision of Clary as fiery, impassioned, artistic…" and for Decter, she did it naturally and effortlessly.
