'Sherlock' Christmas Special Episode News: New Trailer Offers Closer Glimpse Of The Abominable Bride
The game is on once more as BBC is now ready to kick off the highly-anticipated standalone episode for the massively-popular drama TV series, "Sherlock." New reports pointed out to the recently-released teaser trailer for the episode and fans can't wait to find out more about "The Abominable Bride."
The one-off special has already been reported to bring back the beloved duo, Sherlock Holmes (Benedict Cumberbatch) and John Watson (Martin Freeman) into a 1895 Victorian-era London. The timeline happens to be the exact setting where Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, the author of the books which the show was based from, set his stories in.
Earlier this year, the public had been speculating that the show will enter into some kind of time-travelling when the stars were seen donning the fashion of the era. Executive producer Steven Moffat stepped out to clarify that the hour-and-a-half TV event will not be tied to the main series and that when Season 4 premieres, the show will return to the modern setting.
The new promo trailer, which was shared over at Entertainment Weekly, further reveals the dark and eerie London accentuated with dim-lighted alleyways and fogged streets. The clip in particular showed some shocking glimpse of the veiled abominable bride.
Speculations were quick to arise indicating the aforementioned character to be a dark version of Mary Watson (Amanda Abbington). Other camps, meanwhile, prompted that this could not be the case as she has been seen appearing alongside her husband, Watson, in the previous trailer.
Regardless of which, it will all be revealed when "Sherlock" airs on New Year's Day at 9 p.m. on BBC One for UK viewers. US-based fans may have to wait further into the latter half of 2016 before the special episode premieres on the PBS Channel.
Stay tuned for more updates.
