'Sherlock' Season 4 Rumors: Andrew Scott Coming Back?

The upcoming season 4 "Sherlock" is not only full of exciting moments but it is also full of mystery, more specifically on Andrew Scott, who is rumored to return with a more glorious mission than just make Sherlock's (Benedict Cumberbatch) life difficult.

The rumor started when co-creator Steven Moffat told Den of Geek, "I think what we can say is we may or may not see more of Andrew Scott as Moriarty." For the most part, Scott's Moriarty is believed to have been dead, but due to his appearance in season 3, fans are in a debate regarding his return.

It is speculated that Scott will return to the series and the truth about his death will finally be revealed. Fan theories are hot on the topic recently, with some suggesting that Moriarty may have faked his suicide.

Others suggest that he planned his suicide with Sherlock, making the head-shooting scene much more complicated than it already appeared to be. Referring to the viewers' varying thoughts on Moriarty's death, Moffat said there is an element in Moriarty's appearance in season 3 that fans have not yet discovered.

Meanwhile, another character that fans are excited to see is Mary (Amanda Abbington). It is rumored that Mary will see her end in season 4, though there is no specific reason that fans who started the rumor could give. Abbington confirmed that the upcoming season will be "dark," though she did not mention if her character will be killed or will die from natural causes.

There are about hundreds of theories about the new installment, but what's important are the recent photos that production designer for the series, Arwel Wyn Jones, revealed for fans to find peace in.

The photos appear to drop hints about developments in production, with one of the photos captioned: "Right, now anyone remember how this goes? Here we go S4." Jones' images are said to be indirect confirmations that production has officially began for the season.

There is no official premiere date revealed yet, but it is expected that "Sherlock" season 4 will start airing January 2017.
