'Sherlock' Season 4 Spoilers: Family Is a Theme in New Season

News about the highly anticipated return of the BBC series "Sherlock" have been revealed.

After the holiday special of "Sherlock," fans are curious as to what is in store for the fourth season of the series. The stand-alone episode titled "Sherlock: The Abominable Bride" showed Sherlock Holmes, played by Benedict Cumberbatch, and Dr. John Watson, played by Martin Freeman, taking on a mystery during the 19th century.

While the special episode was said to be a stand-alone episode, which means that it is not related to the fourth season of "Sherlock" at all, fans are wondering if the upcoming season will also feature some time travelling.

However, it was said that it is unlikely for the upcoming season to follow the special episode. With that, reports revealed that the episodes to come will have a theme of family. It will delve deeper into family relations and the backgrounds of the characters in the series.

Even the actor who plays Sherlock himself hinted at the possibility of his character's family. According to Latin Times, he stated, "You find out about Sherlock's background. You find out that he comes from a truly stab family."

This also began the rumors that fans will be introduced to another Holmes brother in the upcoming season of "Sherlock." The previous season of "Sherlock" hinted at the possibility of another Holmes brother, which had fans believing that they will find out more about him in season 4.There are theories that the character will be portrayed by Tom Hiddleston. However, this has yet to be confirmed.

Nevertheless, fans still have a long time to wait until the return of the series. The production is expected to begin April this year, after many delays. While there has yet to be any official announcement regarding the release date of the upcoming season, "Sherlock" season 4 is expected to air on BBC in 2017.
