'Sherlock' Season 4 Update: Series Actor's 'Popularity' Could Impede Production Of New Season
There's one thing for sure - BBC One's massively-popular hit TV series "Sherlock" is not being cancelled. However, fans are advised not to hold their breath as the show apparently won't be returning any time soon.
Zap2it.com caught up with PBS president Paula Kerger during the network's panel at the Television Critics Association press tour a few days ago.
"We do have the next 'Sherlock' announced, that is coming up about a year from now," Kerger broke the news to the press.

PBS is the network that airs the aforementioned series into North American airwaves. Apparently, they are among the very first people to know the status of the show. As Kerger went on, she seemed to suggest that the primary reason for the long wait is Benedict Cumberbatch's pretty busy schedule.
"As you know, Benedict has gotten to be somewhat popular since we began our work with him," the network executive was quoted as saying and added that, "he very much wants to continue with 'Sherlock.' As you know, they are produced almost like films, and we're hoping the next one will be about a year from now."
For the uninitiated, the highly-acclaimed 39-year-old English actor stars as the titular character in the TV series, which is based on Sir Arthur Conan Doyle's Sherlock Holmes detective stories.
The recently-appointed Commander of the Order of the British Empire (CBE) by Queen Elizabeth II is joined by the equally-popular England-based actor, Martin Freeman, who played as Sherlock's trusty sidekick, Dr. John Watson.
The last time the famous sleuth and doctor from 221 Baker Street were seen was on the show's New Year Special titled "The Abominable Bride."
Aside from the television, the standalone, Victorian era-inspired episode was also granted a limited theater release in many parts of Europe. In Asia, the special enjoyed huge success in the box offices.
