Sherri Shepherd, Jenny McCarthy Out at 'The View': Who Will Be the Next Hosts?

Sherri Shepherd and Jenny McCarthy are out at "The View" after seven seasons and one season, respectively. The cast of the popular daytime television show is getting a serious shakeup, because since Shepherd, McCarthy and Barbara Walters have left, the only host left is Whoopi Goldberg. What new faces will be coming to "The View"?

One idea that has been floated is adding a male co-host, possibly Anderson Cooper or Mario Cantone. While they are both gay men, both have experience with a female demographic— Cooper through his short-lived daytime TV show "Anderson" and Cantone through his acting on "Sex and the City," among other roles.

After Elisabeth Hasselbeck left "The View" for Fox last year, the show could use a more conservative perspective. Some fans of "Clueless" have advocated for Stacey Dash, who supported Mitt Romney in 2012. Others who lean right think Meghan McCain could be the right choice as a young Republican with a firsthand view of politics.

More possible choices include: Brooke Shields, who has guest co-hosted many times in the past; Ali Wentworth, the comedienne and actress who has appeared on "The View" a fair amount; or even Rosie O'Donnell, who had a short tenure on the show from 2006 to 2007 but also brought the network high ratings during that time.

Sherri Shepherd and Jenny McCarthy's ouster apparently came about because of contract negotiations, one source told the Associated Press. The person, who said they had to speak anonymously, said that Shepherd couldn't reach an agreement with ABC, so she decided to leave. Shepherd's manager, Darris Hatch, confirmed their report.

"It's been seven wonderful years on The View and after careful consideration it is time for me to move on," Shepherd said in a statement to The Wrap. "I am incredibly grateful to my View family and my fans for supporting me on this journey."

McCarthy, too, decided to leave after one season besieged by critics who took issue with her anti-vaccine stance.

"If Sherri goes … I go too. #sisters," she tweeted. "My View will be changing too. As will with many hard working folks. Thanks to everyone at the show for your dedication and an amazing year."

ABC has said that the show is "moving in an exciting new direction next year" and that the network is "[evolving] the show creatively."
