'Silicon Valley' Season 3 News: Premiering TONIGHT; With Richard out, Who's In? What It Means for Everybody

Richard Hendricks (Thomas Middleditch) is back with Pied Piper. But he is no longer CEO. The "Silicon Valley" season two finale saw him out, ousted by Laurie Bream of Raviga. The season three trailer opens with the board offering him a job as chief technology officer in the company, as his old position will be filled in by a newcomer, Jack Barker (Stephen Tobolowsky), who ostensibly has the experience in handling tech companies and putting such on track to success. With these changes afoot, fans of the show can imagine what is possibly in store for Richard and the rest of his motley bunch.

There was never any doubt really that Hendricks would be back, or was there? In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, Alec Berg, along with other producers and showrunners for HBO's "Silicon Valley" series, decide on what "the big thing was" regarding the show, asking, "Does it make sense to have Pied Piper without Richard Hendricks in the company? And ultimately from a story standpoint, the answer was no."

And so, when season three opens, the show gets right into the meat of the matter, as Middleditch shares with Mashable, "Season 3 picks up right where Season 2 leaves off so you don't actually have to wait that long to find out what Richard Hendricks' fate is. That's kind of what they wrestle with for the majority of Season 3. If he's out, who's in and what does that mean for everybody."

With the change of circumstances in Richard's career, season three will test his mettle. It will be all about what he decides to do in order to regain his rightful place as the CEO of Pied Piper. And eventually, too, as the story plays out, the loyalty of his team---Erlich Bachman (TJ Miller), Bertram Gilfoyle (Martin Starr), Jared Dunn (Zach Woods), and Dinesh Chugtai (Kumail Nanjiani)---will be questioned.

This will be especially so, since the new CEO will have other plans for the company. As Barker takes the company in a new direction, the guys may try to resist and oppose. So dysfunction and disharmony shall abound this season as well as hilarity. There will even be a "graphic sex scene" (the very first on the show), as Berg teases the next season. And it would involve Richard and another man.

"Silicon Valley" in its third season will continue to show its ingenious storytelling of today's "high-tech gold rush," even as Richard comes across a sales force that intends to turn his company into a mere commodity.

Besides Hendricks and his bunch, also returning for season three on "Silicon Valley" are Nelson "Bighead" Bighetti played by Josh Brener, Monica Hall by Amanda Crew, Gavin Belson by Matt Ross, Jian-Yang by Jimmy O. Yang, and Laurie Bream by Suzanne Cryer. Another new face will be that of Erin Breen who will play the saleswoman Jan the Man, king of sales.

As "Silicon Valley" season three premieres this Sunday 10 p.m. on HBO, good news comes along with the network announcement that the show is renewed for a fourth season.
