Simon Cowell DJ Show to Compete with 'American Idol?'
Simon Cowell has plans to start a new reality television show that will launch a search for the world's best DJ.
Former "American Idol" judge, and producer of "America's Got Talent" and the "X Factor," has decided that the time is right to bring the spotlight to DJs. "DJ's are the new rock stars, it feels like the right time to make this show," Cowell said in a statement announcing the news.
For the show, Cowell plans to work with Jada Pincket Smith, an actress and producer amongst other talents, who is married to famous actor and rapper Will Smith. Overbrook Entertainment, which is owned by Will Smith, and Sony Pictures Television will collaborate to produce the show worldwide.

On Wednesday Cowell might have disappointed some of his 1.3 million fans by stating that despite the new show, he would not be appearing as a judge. "Excited to announce new DJ show. I will NOT be judging this show. Excited to be working with @jadapsmith. Stay tuned!"
Simon Cowell showed disappointment in December when "X Factor" failed to match the ratings of "American Idol." "I think I probably came here a bit too cocky, but I'm cocky by nature. I'd come off the back of a massive final in the U.K., had the adrenaline, couldn't wait to put the show on here, and it's going to take a little longer than I thought," he said.
"X Factor" pulled in 12.1 million viewers, not even half of American Idol's 26 million. "America's Got Talent," which debuted in 2006, was originally meant to air in Britain first but was postponed after Paul O'Grady's split with ITV. At it's peak the show received 16.1 million viewers in America. It is still part of a franchise that is owned by Simon Cowell's Syco TV company, and is aired in British TV format.
