Smoothies Better For Weight Loss Than Juice, Says Nutritionist

The debate over the benefits of juicing as opposed to blending fruits and vegetables has reached fever pitch in today's hyper-healthy markets, but one nutritionist offered an easy answer this week.

If you are interested in healthier lifestyles, liquid nutrition in the forms of fresh juices and smoothies are probably common in your regimen. Each, however, harbor both advantages and drawbacks. As society grows more health-conscious with every passing day, consumers are looking to experts to explain the differences between juices and smoothies. Fortunately, The Christian Post spoke with certified nutritionist Elyse Wagner who founded the virtual health coaching company "My Kitchen Shrink."

"Juicing is a great alternative for specific individuals," said Wagner, who focuses on helping her clients eat mindfully and live healthfully.

"However, when you're having a smoothie, you're getting the whole food including the fiber from the skins of fruits and vegetables," the author pointed out. "Juicing is extracting just the juice, minerals and vitamins, but it's mostly sugar."

Wagner's clear-cut answer was followed by additional benefits of drinking a smoothie.

"Smoothies are a great choice that will keep you full longer while regulating your blood sugar levels," she explained.

Wagner explains even more in her recently-released book, "Smoothie Secrets Revealed: A Guide to Enhance Your Health." The book offers 30 healing, whole foods smoothie recipes that help readers maintain a sustainable and nourishing diet. Furthermore, "Smoothie Secrets Revealed" encourages readers to dismiss the notion that healthy eating is more expensive.

"The biggest myth I hear about healthy eating today is that it's expensive," Wagner told CP. "Transitioning to fruits and veggies may be more expensive at first. The long term effects of fresh produce, such as providing a variety of nutrient-dense vitamins and minerals, make it a long-term health investment."

"Smoothie Secrets Revealed" also stresses the importance of attitude while striving for a healthier lifestyle. In the book, Wagner explains decisions on food are reflected from attitude, and that, in turn, what and how you eat can affect your attitude.

"Your attitude is everything, it all comes back to how you want to feel," she said.

When it comes to diet and exercise, Wagner applied the same guidelines.

"I would encourage someone who was starting to diet and exercise to first change their mindset," the author revealed. "This is key. My advice to someone would be for them to understand their lifestyle, how they want to feel and what they need first. It's hard to fit into a cookie cutter diet or someone else's plan. We need to first do what's best for us and create our own recipe for health success."
