'Sonic The Hedgehog' Movie Update: Release Tipped For 2018, Features Live-Action And Animation
Good news for all the fans of Sonic the Hedgehog. The fast-running blue hedgehog is going to be appearing on the big screen soon as reports say that Sega and Sony are collaborating on making a "Sonic the Hedgehog" movie.
In an interview with The WorldFolio, Sega CEO Hajime Satomi confirmed the news regarding the upcoming movie. He said that the Sega Sammy Group is currently working with Sony Pictures to produce a live-action and animation hybrid film. He also revealed the expected release date of the film which is going to be sometime in the year 2018. Satomi also shared that the film is one of their next-generation concepts.
"Like with this CG animation production, we would like to expand our business into other entertainment areas beyond what we are currently involved," he said.

The movie is also part of their celebration for the blue speedster character who is already turning 25 this coming June. And because it's the silver anniversary of Sonic, it's expected that there are going to be a lot more announcements made in the next days.
Apart from the confirmation of the "Sonic the Hedgehog" movie, there are no other details yet on what the film will be like or what the plot story will be. But since it is going to be a combination of live action and CGI, there may be a possibility that it will be similar to "Space Jam," "Who Framed Roger Rabbit" or "Alvin and the Chipmunks." Coming Soon reported though that the film will be written by Evan Susser and Van Robichaux and produced by Neal H. Mortiz.
For those who are not aware yet, "Sonic the Hedgehog" is a video game franchise that was first published in 1991. The upcoming 2018 movie isn't the first time that Sonic will be taken out of his video game element though. Sonic has been given his own animated series wherein he was introduced as someone who likes chili dogs.
