Sonic the Hedgehog Unlocked for 'Angry Birds Epic' (VIDEO)

Sonic the Hedgehog is coming to "Angry Birds Epic" as an unlockable character for a limited time.

Two months after Chimera Entertainment's popular RPG, "Angry Birds Epic" appeared on Hardlight's "Sonic Dash," it appears the classic endless runner character is repaying the favor by joining the cast of "Angry Birds Epic."

Sonic the Hedgehog will be an unlockable character in an "Angry Birds Epic" special event, "Angry Birds Sonic Dash Epic," that features a mini campaign with its own multi-level map to explore, a new unlockable class, exclusive equipment, more loot to collect, and a Golden Pig dungeon.

In the game's latest update, players can unlock Sonic to join their party on Piggy Island as they battle the blue hedgehog's primary opponent, Dr. Eggman, who will be bringing his whole robot army into the fray.

Most of the robots "Angry Birds Epic" players will be taking on have been taken straight out of the "Sonic Dash" endless runner game for mobile. Players can expect obstacles in the form of mechanical piranhas and robot crabs to hinder their progress, which they can defeat via the Sonic and Angry Birds team-up.

Chimera has added some permanent improvements with its update, including giving Chuck an "Illusionist" class, and reaching level 12 for all Master Class members. All the birds in the game will also be eligible to reach level 50.

Other "Angry Birds" characters, including Bomb, Chuck, and Red will be appearing in the "Sonic Dash" game for a limited time, as well.

However, Sonic won't be a permanent part of "Angry Birds Epic," and will be present only for the duration of the event as publisher SEGA fulfills its crossover contractual obligation to Chimera and Rovio Entertainment.

The untamed free spirit that is Sonic will no longer join his feathered friends after the event ends.
