Sony Ditches Six-Month Product Cycle, Xperia Z4 to Come With QHD Display and Snapdragon 810 Chip?

Smartphone manufacturers usually stick to a yearly product cycle where they release one phone every year, usually during the fourth quarter. Sony, however, has taken a bizarre move and switched to a bi-annual six-month product cycle and started the switch off by releasing the Xperia Z3 and Xperia Z3 Compact.

The Xperia Z3 was not really much of an improvement as critics have pointed out but will give those entering the Sony market a choice to opt for either the highly-rated Xperia Z2 or the slightly improved Xperia Z3. Of course, with a new handset every six months, rumors about the next handset will always be around.

Right now, there are already spec rumors of the Xperia Z4, Sony's next flagship model. More likely than not, the Z4 will be making its debut during MWC 2015.

Suprisingly, a Sony representative has mentioned tha the company is going to be going back to its yearly product cycle. The company now believes that it has caught up with the smartphone market's biggest brands and will now be slowing down the development cycle to allow more thorough and refined development between models.

As for the specs, reports say that the Z4 will be getting a 5.5-inch display with a 2560 x 1440 QHD screen resolution. A Qualcomm Snapdragon 810 chipset is rumored to power the handset as well as 4GB of RAM, however, all handsets rumored to get the 810 chipset haven't been confirmed yet.

Additionally, the Z4 is rumored to come with a 21-megapixel snapper which will feature "plane phase detection."
