Sony Working To Release A Much Newer Gaming Console To Be Called "PlayStation 4.5"
Released in November 2013, Sony's latest iteration of its home video game console PlayStation, the PlayStation 4, might soon give way to the newest generation purportedly called PlayStation 4.5.
According to a report from Kotaku.com, Sony is said to be in the works to bring out a newer version of the gaming console with "increased graphical power" which lends it the capacity to run games at 4K resolution.
It is yet to be revealed if the update will arrive via a new device or if PS4 owners need only to upgrade the current-gen's software for them to enjoy the new gaming experience.
Sources for the publication cited the individuals who claim to have knowledge of the project that the so-called PS4.5 will feature an upgraded GPU which can now support "high-end 4K resolution for games" while also increasing its graphical power to cater the needs to Sony's newest entertainment device, the PlayStation VR. The latter gizmo was unveiled at the Game Developers Conference 2016 last week. Priced at $399, the headset touted to compete brands like the Oculus Rift and the HTC Vive will arrive to the store shelves by October 2016.
Kotaku, however, made it clear that "PS4.5" might not be the official name as this could just be the term insiders use to refer to the device. It has even been claimed that the upcoming-gen entertainment system might go by the name of "PS4K."
A follow up report, this time coming from Eurogamer.net, supports the claim over at Kotaku. Eurogamer insiders insisted on the term PlayStation 4K.
"Everything we've heard positions PlayStation 4K as a machine capable of playing current and next-generation ultra HD media, while also offering support for other aspects of the 4K spec, such as high-dynamic range and a wider colour gamut - aspects of the 4K spec that could be introduced to gaming," the site wrote.
Putting the output aspect aside, the publication pointed out that Sony might still use the APU (Accelerated Processing Unit) technology present in the soon to be outdated PS4.
Stay tuned for more updates.
