This year has been tumultuous for the 21-year old star. In July, Soulja Boy lied about buying a $55 million G-5 jet for his birthday. Soulja Boy then enmeshed himself in more controversy when his song "Let's Be Real" was released in September.

One of the lyrics in the song reads: "F*** the FBI and the army troops ... fighting for what? Be your own man ... I'll be flying through the clouds with green like I'm Peter Pan."

The song’s content and release timing, just after the 10th anniversary of the Sept. 11 attacks, outraged the military community. Soulja Boy since apologized for the song.

In October, Soulja Boy was arrested for marijuana possession. The rapper was arrested in 2009 for obstruction after running from police.

Soulja Boy rose to fame in 2007 when his song "Crank That (Soulja Boy)" went to the top of the Billboard Hot 100. The chart-topper helped his debut album Souljaboytellem.com go certified platinum.

Forbes ranked Soulja Boy No. 18 on its 2010 list of Hip-Hop Cash Kings of 2010 for earning a reported $7 million that year.
