'Spring Breakers 2' to Feature Extreme Christian Sect, James Franco Denounces Sequel
The highly controversial 2013 movie "Spring Breakers" will reportedly see a sequel that features an "extreme Christian sect" that attempts to convert a group of wild partiers in the film.
Screen Daily reported earlier this month that the movie titled "Spring Breakers: The Second Coming" is in the works and will be directed by Jonas Akerlund and written by Irvine Welsh.
The "Second Coming" will not be a direct sequel to the first film as characters from the original that stars James Franco, Vanessa Hudgens, Selena Gomez and Ashley Benson won't be in it. Instead, it will follow a brand new group of partiers who encounter a gang of evangelical Christians that try to convert them to the faith.

Franco, who played rapper/drug dealer/philosopher Alien in the first film, expressed his disgust over the sequel recently due to it being made without his or the original's director Harmony Korine's involvement.
"This is not being done with Harmony Korine or my consent," said Franco. "The original was wholly Harmony's creation, and these producers are capitalizing on that innovative film to make money on a weak sequel. I want everyone to know that whoever is involved in the sequel is jumping on board a poison ship."
He even compared his partnership with Korine to Robert DeNiro's and Martin Scorcese's work on "Taxi Driver."
"Can you imagine someone making the sequel to Taxi Driver without Scorcese and DeNiro's consents? Insanity! I'm speaking up for Harmony and his original vision and for any creative person who cares about preserving artistic integrity," the actor added.
Money seems to be the main motivation for the sequel as the original "Spring Breakers" cost just $5 million to make and it grossed $14.1 million at the domestic box office and $17.6 million abroad.
