'Star Wars Battlefront 2' Loot Crate Contents Changed
EA DICE has reworked the Star Wars Battlefront 2 progression system following criticisms that the game was becoming a pay-to-win title. The news was shared on EA's website along with details on what players can expect when the game launches in mid-November.
"The Beta gave us a welcome chance to test all of our systems in action and tune things up for better balance," the blog post reads. "A few weeks back, we mentioned we were going to take another look at how the progression system works."
Most of the changes to the progression system involved Star Cards which allow players to use extra abilities or weapons. Epic Star Cards will no longer be confined to loot crates. Instead, players can either craft them, or acquire them by buying the deluxe editions of "Star Wars Battlefront 2."

Players will also need to increase their in-game rank in order to upgrade their Star Cards using crafting materials which are still found in loot crates. Finally, the majority of class-based weapons will be unlocked through regular play as that class. There will also be crates limited to one class containing parts and Star Cards to create new items and gear with.
These changes come after EA received a torrent of complaints during the game's beta. Star Cards were limited to random loot drops forcing players to either grind for hours or shell out hard earned cash just to improve their characters, either option being unacceptable.
Star Cards are vital if players want to essentially do anything in the game as they are the primary place for players to upgrade their fighters and ships. Making them available exclusively through loot crates made the game seem more like a pay to win, not exactly a good idea given that players already had to pay premium for it.
But that's all in the past now, hopefully, as these recent changes make sure that the game can be enjoyed without the need to spend unholy amounts of cash.
"Star Wars Battlefront 2" is set to be released on Nov. 17 for the PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and Microsoft Windows.
