Star Wars Episode 7 Plot News: Movie Rumors Claim Ewan McGregor Will Be Cast in Central Role as Obi-Wan (Trailer Video)

Star Wars Episode 7 rumors are continuing to circulate among fans of the franchise, with the latest news claiming that Ewan McGregor will definitely be cast for the movie, and that he will take a central role as Obi-Wan Kenobi.

Multiple sources have claimed that the British actor will feature, which has surprised many as Obi-Wan Kenobi was killed by Darth Vader in the first Star Wars film ever made – "A New Hope."

The upcoming trilogy is set after the events of the original trilogy, after "Return of the Jedi." However, death apparently does not stop Obi-Wan from making a return, and rumors claim he will return as a Force Ghost.

The Scottish actor was popular in the role of a young Obi-Wan Kenobi in the second trilogy – which was set prior to the original trilogy, and he has previously expressed a keenness to return for the upcoming triology.

Rumors surrounding McGregor's return to Star Wars have been around for a long time – the actor told Digital Spy in 2012 that he would be delighted to return as Obi-Wan Kenobi should casting bods approach him for a part.

The Ewan McGregor rumors top off a frantic week of rumors surrounding the new movie, which is already creating a huge buzz among fans.

Earlier in the week, Ian McDiarmid was rumored to be a dead cert. to return as the evil Emperor Palpatine.

Again those rumors confused many fans as Palpatine of course famously bit the dust when he was killed by Darth Vader in "Return of the Jedi" – the conclusion of the original trilogy.

So far, rumors surrounding the new film have delighted hard core Star Wars fans, as they seemingly point to a return for McGregor, McDiarmid, as well as a flurry of original cast members including, Harrison Ford, Mark Hamill, Carrie Fisher and composer John Williams.

Star Wars Episode 7 is expected to have a scheduled release date in the summer of 2015.
