'Stardew Valley' Publisher Gives Updates On Game's Switch Version

Nintendo Switch owners will soon be able to enjoy the indie farming simulation role-playing game that is "Stardew Valley." This happened after the game's publisher, Chucklefish, announced that the game's port to the hybrid console is almost ready.

Taking to Twitter, Chucklefish's CEO Finn Brice said that the version has been "approved" and that they are now working on finalizing a release date. Brice also assured fans that they will continue to update them regarding the port's progress.

Back in August, the publisher said that it doesn't generally announce release dates until a game is quite close to launching when they are at least 95 percent sure nothing will go wrong. Brice saying that they are now "finalizing" the port indicates that the game is very close to being released.

The game was planned to be released on the Wii U but this was later scrapped in favor of the hybrid console. The Switch version of "Stardew Valley" was initially expected to be released in the summer. However, this was postponed possibly due to the developers adding a multiplayer mode to the game in early 2018.

Once released, the new mode will allow players to build up to three cabins on their farms, each of which can house a friend. These friends can do everything the main player can which includes mining, foraging, taking part in festivals, and even getting married.

According to Chucklefish, they hope to begin beta testing the new mode on Steam at the end of the year. The update will then be released on PC and the Switch with other consoles to follow shortly.

"Stardew Valley" was launched for the PC back in February 2016 and was subsequently released on the Xbox One and PlayStation 4 late last year. The indie title was a smashing success both critically and commercially selling over one million copies in its first two months and earning an average of 8.5/10 rating from critics.
