Stars Shine at Oscars as Viewers Set Twitter, Facebook Abuzz

Sunday night's Academy Awards show was flooded with a slue of famous faces dressed to impress and this year more viewers than ever before took to social media networking sites such as Twitter and Facebook to share their opinion of the glamorous show.

Internet trafficking firm Bluefin found that comments on social media networking sites about Sunday's show saw a substantial rise as comments tripled to 3.4 million -- up from last year's 966,000, according to Reuters news agency.

Of the 3.4 million comments about the Oscars, the films, and the outfits, the most mentioned famous face of the evening was 62-year-old actress Meryl Streep.

Streep won the Oscar for best actress in a leading role for her portrayal of Margret Thatcher in "The Iron Lady." It was the third Oscar win for the actress and her first win since the 1980s.

Other celebrities who grabbed notable amounts of social media attention included Jennifer Lopez and Angelina Jolie.

Lopez, who did not star in any films in 2011, managed to steal the show in her low-cut gown that had many users questioning if the singer would suffer a wardrobe malfunction while onstage with Cameron Diaz.

Jolie stunned the crowd wearing a black velvet Versace gown with a slit nearly up to her waistline leaving her right leg exposed, which quickly became a Twitter trend.

"And the biggest star of #Oscars night? Angelina Jolie's right leg! #werq," tweeted E! News.

Some of the most notable winners from Sunday's show included powerhouse Hollywood veterans such as Meryl Streep and Woody Allen, but also included newcomers like Octavia Spencer and French actor Jean Dujardin.

Allen won an Oscar for best original screenplay for "Midnight in Paris," but was not in attendance to accept his award.

Octavia Spencer won an Oscar for best actress in a supporting role for her part in "The Help." French actor, Jean Dujardin won best actor for his role in "The Artist." Dujardin is the first French actor to win an Oscar for best actor.

"I love your country," he said as he joyfully accepted his award.
