Steve Harvey Explains God's Plan for His Fame

Steve Harvey, the 56-year-old comedian, recently revealed that God's plan for his life was much more than being a comedian or host.

Harvey helps young men with his Steve Harvey Mentoring Program and explained how this was part of his mission from God.

"My plan was to tell jokes until I was 68, then I was going to retire. I didn't see myself with a boy's camp or none of this," Harvey told The Dallas Weekly recently. "So that just goes to show you God's plan is always better than yours."

The entertainer revealed that this was not always his plan for his own life.

"This wasn't my mission. My dream was to be one of the premier stand ups (comedians) in the country," Harvey told The Dallas Weekly. "That's all I ever asked God for. Now his plan for me was much greater."

The comedian and talk show host let it be known that his fame can be used for a bigger purpose.

"Well this is one of the most important works I do. I think God put me in the position to do all of those other things to do this," Harvey told The Dallas Weekly. "I have taken the fame he bestowed upon me and I use it in a way that would be beneficial to some young men who otherwise may not get opportunities to sit with some positive men who can show them what manhood is really about."

Harvey hosts an annual Father's Day Weekend for boys without fathers, and welcomed 120 boys to his Steve Harvey Mentoring Program during Father's Day weekend recently. Although he began his career as a comedian, Harvey headlined his very last stand-up comedy show with tears while giving glory to God last July at the the MGM Grand in Las Vegas.

"Somebody tweeted me and said, 'Your career is what you paid for, your calling is what you're made for.' God has positioned me just this way to be just like I am, to say what I say how I say it," Harvey told his audience in a final goodbye. "I'm just a living witness that you can be an imperfect soldier and still be in the army fighting for God Almighty. Don't you think you got to be perfect 'cause I ain't. Thank y'all for 27 years. I love you."
