Steven Tyler Sends American Idol Silent With Inappropriate Comment

Aerosmith frontman Steven Tyler has helped kick off Season 11 of American Idol, although things did not go as planned as the rock singer created an awkward moment by making inappropriate comments about one teenage contestant.

The contestant in question was 15 year old Shannon Magrane, who had come along to audition before the Idol judges, including Tyler. Magrane, in fact is the teenage daughter of St. Louis Cardinals pitcher Joe Magrane.

As she entered the room Tyler whispered, “Wow!”

However, he was later introduced to the Magrane family, who had come along to support her. Tyler tried to bond with them by talking about the weather in Boston, saying it was “hot, humid and happening-just like your daughter.”

The room quickly went silent, as everyone else tried to make sense of the seemingly inappropriate comment. The Lopez came to the rescue by breaking the silence, saying, “What a beautiful family!”

Magrane was praised for her audition and will not attend the next stage of the competition in Hollywood. Critics have commented on Tyler’s inappropriate comments, although some have simply put it down to his style of complimenting people.
