'Stranger Things: The Game' Released For Free By Netflix

With only weeks away from the premiere of "Stranger Things" season 2, Netflix has decided to release a mobile game based on the sci-fi horror series. "Stranger Things: The Game" is now available for download in Google Play and the App Store absolutely free.

The video streaming service decided to whet fans' appetite by releasing the mobile game free of charge and devoid of any microtransactions. It's not mind-blowing by any means but is nevertheless an enjoyable experience.

The game features graphics reminiscent of 80's action-adventure video game titles looking like something the Super NES might churn out. It even comes complete with pixel art and a chiptune-style rendition of the "Stranger Things" theme song.

Players will put on the shoes of many of the show's characters starting with Police Chief Hopper as he investigates reports of some missing kids. Punch stuff, solve simple puzzles, unlock doors with keys that inexplicably disappear after a single use and progress through the game meeting more characters get to play as Nancy and the boys, all of whom have unique abilities.

The game also features many of the locations from the show such as Mirkwood Forest, Hawkins Lab, and the Upside-Down. There are also collectibles that litter the streets of Hawkins some of which are said to unlock secret content.

There are two available game modes to "Stranger Things: The Game," Normal and Classic, for those who somehow found the unforgiving nature of classic games fun. The game also supports an achievement system to add a little more spice to the game.

The show's second season is all about the "determined desire to return to normalcy in Hawkins" for Will, his family, his friends, and the other residents in the town affected by the events. A "mysterious" update is also destined for the game come Oct. 27 when "Stranger Things" season 2 premieres on Netflix.
