Super Smash Bros 4 News: Mario Galaxy-Themed Level Revealed in 'Pic of the Day' (PICTURE)

Super Smash Bros 4 director Masahiro Sakurai has revealed a new level from the upcoming game Sunday that pays homage to the beloved, Mario Galaxy series.

"Pic of the day. A new stage, Mario Galaxy!! The pull of gravity emanates from the center of the planet, so this will require using brand-new tactics," the director posted to the Nintendo Miiverse. See the picture and posting here.

Just this weekend, Mario creator Shigeru Miyamoto revealed that the Super Mario Galaxy series is not necessarily over even though they have moved on to the 3D World series and New Super Mario Bros series.

"Just so there is no misunderstanding, I should point out that this doesn't mean we'll never make another Super Mario Galaxy game," Miyamoto said in an Iwata Asks session. "The same team can't make both at the same time. And we can't bring in a second party and slap the name Super Mario Galaxy on it."

The two series' are distinctly different as the Galaxy games have an open world 3D adventure feel, and the New Super Mario Bros and 3D World are more of a 2D platformer.

"Personally, I would like to take on a variety of new challenges with Super Mario Galaxy and design 2D Super Mario games in an easy-to-understand way within certain restraints," he continued.

The new SSB game already confirmed 18 characters: Mario, Luigi, Link, Samus, Kirby, Fox, Pikachu, Bowser, Donkey Kong, Pit, Olimar, Toon Link, Princess Peach, Sonic the Hedgehog, MegaMan, Marth, the Female Wii Fit Trainer, and the Villager.

The website Newegg.com lists the Wii U date as Dec. 31 2014 and the 3DS version of the game as being available on May 16 2014.

SSB4 Wii U is $59.99 and SSB4 3DS is $39.99.
