Super Smash Bros for Wii U Playable With GameCube Controllers, Nintendo Re-Releases Controllers and Wii U Adapter

"Super Smash Bros for Wii U" is scheduled for a release this coming November 21 in the U.S. and on December 5 for Europe and December 6 for Japan. The Wii U version of the game is essentially the same as the Nintendo 3DS version.

The Super Smash Bros series of games is one of Nintendo's most successful titles in the company's history with its wide range of characters from different Nintendo game titles as well as its four-player local multiplayer capabilities. Nintendo is upping the ante however and is introducing eight-player local multiplayer on certain maps.

To make this possible, Nintendo has issue re-releases of its GameCube controllers. The Smash Bros for the GameCube is considered by fans to be one of the best releases by Nintendo and the controller was deemed as perfect and fitting for the game itself. Thus, Nintendo is re-releasing its GameCube controllers as well as the four-port adapters to enable compatibility with the Wii U.

Essentially, four of the eight players would be using the GameCube controllers on the four-port adapters while the remaining four will be using the Wii U gamepads to play as the GameCube four-port adapters use up to USB ports.

Players will also be able to carry their fighters from Wii U to Wii U with the use of Amiibo figurines. The figurines use the same principle as Disney's own console game "Disney Infinity" where players would purchase figurines of their favorite characters.

A character's progress can also be stored on the figurines but only carries one version of the character. This means that a player must decide one which version of the character he wants to carry with him. Buying two of the same figurines for different versions of the characters are possible but expensive as the figurines cost $12.99 each.
