'Supergirl' Season 1 Episode 14 Spoilers: How Will Astra's Death Affect Kara?

Last week's showing of CBS' hit superhero drama TV series "Supergirl" Season 1, which was titled "For the Girl Who Has Everything," was heartbreaking, given the death of Astra (Laura Benanti), Kara Zor-El's (Melissa Benoist) last blood relative from Krypton.

For those who missed it, Kara's adoptive Earth sister Alex (Chyler Leigh) stabbed Astra with a blade laced with Kryptonite. She was forced to do so in order to save J'onn J'onnz/Hank (David Harewood). It didn't take long before the powerful Krypton woman succumbed to the deep wound. In the meantime, Kara was facing off with Non (Chris Vance).

When the dust settled, Kara sadly witnessed her aunt die. However, she never knew the truth as to who drove the blade to Astra's chest. When Alex stepped up to tell Kara, Hank stopped her. According to the Martian Manhunter, Alex should always be Supergirl's superhero. But the devastation felt by Kara over Astra's demise can't be denied.

In an interview, executive producer Andrew Kreisberg told Entertainment Weekly that Astra's death will affect the heroine's way of thinking in the next episode.

"The death of Astra weighs heavy on Kara in the upcoming episodes," the EP said. "Kara believes in the inherent goodness of people. She thinks that deep down her aunt was more misguided than evil, and if she had more time, she could have brought her back into the light."

To make matters worse for the blond superhero, the synopsis from The Futon Critic said that Episode 14 "Truth, Justice and the American Way" will see the arrival of the Master Jailer, played by Jeff Branson. The said entity has come to Earth to hunt down and execute the fugitives from Fort Rozz.

In another development, Cat (Calista Flockhart) hires a new assistant, Siobhan Smythe (Italia Ricci). The latter will immediately come into conflict with Kara. Will the nerdy PA stand up to the challenge?

Find out when "Supergirl" Season 1 Episode 14 "Truth, Justice and the American Way" premieres Monday, Feb. 22, at 8 p.m. on CBS.
