'Sword Art Online' Season 3 News: Release Date Announcement Coming During Sakura-Con?

March is a big month for "Sword Art Online" and its fans especially now that reports are pointing to the possible announcements for season 3 during this year's Sakura-Con.

Recent rumors suggest that news about the hit anime series will be revealed during this year's Sakura-Con. Although the rumors are far from confirmed, a lot of fans believe that the release date will be declared during the event.

Speculations about the said event started circulating after it was confirmed on the anime's official Facebook post that creator Reki Kawahara will be one of the guests who will grace the event. While it is unclear how Kawahara will handle the masses' questions, it is expected that he will reveal the developments that the season is going through. Previous reports suggested that the third installment will premiere sometime this year. As expected by some disappointed viewers, there was no confirmation given.

The first season started airing in 2012, followed by the second season in 2014. Almost two years later, there have been little or no official statements given about the third season's premiere yet. While fans are hoping for a summer release, it might be too early to hope for such until Kawahara says something during the March festivities.

The upcoming season is said to revolve around the "Alicization" arc, which will feature Kirito's job in the crime division of a private entity. He will be testing the so-called "Soul Translator" and his job will lead him to the "Underworld."

As for his romance with Asuna, there is no official news as to how the relationship will be depicted in season 3. Fans are requesting for more developments in their romance, but as far as the two seasons are concerned, viewers may have to wait longer before wedding bells start ringing for the two.

This year's Sakura-Con will be held on March 25-27, at the Washington State Convention Center in Seattle, Washington.
