T-Mobile Debuts 'myTouch' and 'myTouch Q' Android Smartphones

Cellphone carrier T-Mobile has officially debuted its brand new smartphones: the "myTouch" and the "myTouch Q."

Both phones, manufactured by LG, are the latest Google Android-powered handsets to join T-Mobile’s line of "myTouch" products. These mobile devices are intended for users that are set to use smartphones for the very first time.

The "myTouch" is a slab-style smartphone running Android 2.3 Gingerbread on a single-core 1GHz processor from Qualcomm. It has a 3.8-inch display, a 5-megapixel rear shooter capable of video capture in 720p and a VGA front-facing camera for video chat. The "myTouch" label skin graces the phone's exterior, along with the Swype keyboard.

As for the "myTouch Q" smartphone, it includes a QWERTY keyboard slider. It features the same specs as the "myTouch", including Android 2.3 Gingerbread and its 1GHz single-core Qualcomm processor. However, the front-facing VGA camera is absent and the screen has been reduced to 3.8 inches. The smartphone still retains the 5-megapixel rear camera with 720p video capture. The four-row slide-out keyboard is pre-loaded with a Genius button that launches directly into T-Mobile’s voice control system.

The "myTouch" and "myTouch Q" offers users a set-up Wizard for simple instructions on quick e-mail and social network integration and a quick “how-to” widget that provides an overview of the devices features. Such features include a collection of instructional videos and the Genius Button, which offers voice commands to call, text, or conduct web searches.

Andrew Sherrard, senior vice president of marketing at T-Mobile USA, backed the smartphone in a statement: "When moving to their first smartphone, customers want a simple and uncomplicated experience without compromising on quality. With the introduction of these new myTouch smartphones paired with our worry-free data plans and fast 4G network, we’re making it easier than ever to step up to 4G experiences."

The T-Mobile "myTouch" will come in colors black and white and cost $129 on-contract. The "myTouch Q" will be available in grey and violet versions, with the same on-contract price.

The "myTouch" and "myTouch Q" smartphones are set to be released on Nov. 2.
