Take-Two Hints At New Entry To A Major 2K Franchise
Take-Two Interactive has revealed that they will be launching a new entry into one of 2K Games' biggest franchises next year. This is in addition to "Red Dead Redemption 2" which is also slated for a 2018 release for the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.
The new title was among the several announcements made its earnings report such as the "Grand Theft Auto V" sales numbers which has now hit over 85 million units. In addition to highlighting the company's profits for the fiscal year, which falls between April 1, 2018, and March 31, 2019, the report also showcased what to expect from the company moving forward.
"Looking ahead, we expect fiscal 2019 to be a record year for Net Bookings and net cash provided by operating activities led by the upcoming launches of Rockstar Games' Red Dead Redemption 2 and a highly anticipated new title from one of 2K's biggest franchises," said Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick in the report.
Zelnick didn't reveal any more details about the new title and given that 2K has a number of large franchises, it's somewhat difficult to pinpoint which franchise that could be. "Borderlands 3" seems to be the most plausible as Gearbox CEO Randy Pitchford said 90 percent of the studio is working on a game "most of you guys want us to be working on."
Another franchise that desperately needs a new entry is "Bioshock." 2K is set to release a special collector's edition of the game later this month in celebration of its 10th anniversary. Who knows, maybe this could be the precursor to a new installment of the hit shooter.
Fortunately for 2K fans, "Red Dead Redemption 2" is definitely set on a Spring 2018 release date. That means no more long waits before gamers can once again slaughter the undead Western style.
