Target Dress Apology: 'Manatee Gray' Dress for Plus Size Women Taken Down From Target Website (VIDEO)

A Target dress has caused the shop to make an apology after customers were left outraged by the color description given to the dress in its "Plus Size" versions. The dress has also now reportedly been taken off Target's online website until the issue can be resolved.

The incident occurred after shoppers noticed that one of the dresses for sale on Target.com had different color names when shown in different sizes. The larger dress' color was described as a "manatee" color, after the large aquatic marine mammal.

The description for the Plus Size dress sparked outrage among some, and soon potential customers were ranting about Target's labeling across various sites on the Internet.

The dress' color in one of the smaller sizes was described as "Dark Heather Gray," however, when the dress was viewed in the larger size the color description changed to "Manatee Gray."

Outraged online shoppers copied a photo of the offensive label compared to the regular label, and soon the image became a viral sensation on the Internet. Target has since issued an embarrassing apology, saying that the offensive dress color label was simply an "unintended oversight."

Target spokeswoman Jessica Deede told Forbes: "We never want to offend any of our guests. We apologize for any discomfort that we may have caused … We are in the process of fixing the discrepancy and updating Target.com so the gray dress will be available in all styles … We're working on updating our systems right now."

A representative for the store has insisted that "Manatee Gray" was not meant as a description for clothing size and was not meant to be offensive, and that the same color was used for many other items the shop sold, including towels, rain boots, and shirts.
