'Tekken 7' Updates: Akuma Showcases Power in New Gameplay Footage
Fans were surprised when "Street Fighter" character Akuma appeared in the first trailer for "Tekken 7: Fated Retribution," and now he has already showcased his power in the gameplay footage during the Japan Amusement Expo (JAEPO) 2016.
Akuma's appearance in the first trailer of "Tekken 7: Fated Retribution" prompted fans to speculate that a crossover with "Street Fighter" is bound to happen. However, game designer Michael Murray broke fans' hearts by saying Akuma will be the only crossover character in the title, the Latin Post reports.
"Right now, Akuma is the only one we have planned," said Murray. "Harada [Game Producer Katsuhiro Harada] and I have always been against guest characters because it kinda throws off the Tekken world and setting."
The new gameplay shows a match between players Nobi and Tokido during the JAEPO 2016, Vine Report relays.
In the 20-minute gameplay footage from "Tekken 7: Fated Retribution," Akuma is seen in an intense match with Dragunov. Akuma, a man-turned-demon who wants to corrupt Ryu is a tough competitor. However, the footage also revealed the ways that he can be defeated.
Dragunov is seen effectively counteracting Akuma's special techniques. Totally toppling him over will be a very challenging task because he is the most powerful in the mythos of "Street Fighter," and the crossover to the "Tekken 7" world has not diminished his powers, the report details.
Meanwhile, "Tekken 7: Fated Retribution" was featured not only in the JAEPO 2016 but also in the Wizard World Comic-Con in Portland, which ran from Feb. 19 to Feb. 21. During the expo, Bandai Namco and Wizard World Inc allowed fans to play and test the game.
Rumor has it that the game may be made available for the upcoming Sony PlayStation VR headset. But players will only be able to view and customize the characters using the headset.
"Tekken 7: Fated Retribution" is slated for a July release in Japanese arcades. The game will be made available to the PS4 and Xbox One later on. The official release dates, however, have not yet been announced.
