Tesla Model 3 Delivery Latest News: First Production Unit Delivered In Texas

Tesla is definitely speeding up production of the Tesla Model 3 after one lucky customer from Austin, Texas became the first to get a delivery outside of California. Tesla enthusiast and real estate agent Matt Holm was given a sneak peek by the car's owner, documenting his ride in a now-deleted Youtube video.

According to Holm, the car's owner allowed him to film inside the vehicle as well as when car's owner and a salesman discussing the features of the mass-produced compact electric sedan. One thing that struck Holm was the learning curve required to drive the car courtesy of its somewhat unconventional central touchscreen display.

The central touchscreen display controls virtually all of the car's functions. The car's learning curve was pretty much apparent when even the salesman was shown fumbling with the touchscreen to activate even basic features such as windshield wipers and the car's aircon vents.

This has been used as ammunition by Tesla's critics who pointed out that the central touchscreen is a liability for owners of the Tesla Model 3. Using the touchscreen requires the driver to take his or her eyes off the road for otherwise simple tasks such as activating the windshield wipers.

Tesla seems to heed the criticism as the automaker is also releasing a variant with a more conventional wiper stalk which would make driving the electric car a tad more familiar. Of course, if familiar is what floats the buyer's boat, they'd be better off buying a Ford or a Toyota.

After all, the Model 3 is a completely new type of electric vehicle, the culmination of Elon Musk's Master Plan. The car is designed to usher in a new era of fully-electric, self-driving cars all for the ultimate goal of bettering humanity. With this in mind, the learning curve presented by the central touchscreen display is perhaps understandable.

Currently, the Tesla Model 3 only delivered to customers in California to allow the automaker to easily address glitches. The car will then be released to the rest of the country later this year followed by a global rollout on 2018.
