The Extreme Party

In the last election cycle you heard over and over again from many in the media how one party is "too extreme" for the American people. They are right, but they identified the wrong party.

While the media concentrated on the stumbling of pro-life conservative candidates in Missouri and Indiana, they ignored the fact that the head of the Democratic Party, President Barack Obama, stood in the way of preventing infanticide while he was a state legislator in Illinois.

The Karl Roves of the world insist we should surrender marriage to those who want to redefine it because the issue is "too divisive. In contrast, President Obama and his allies have shown the results of such submission by supporting legislation, like the wrongly named "Every Child Deserves a Family Act," which would effectively shut down Christian adoption agencies simply because these agencies prioritize a mother and a father in child placement. Think this is right wing conjecture? The legalization of same-sex "marriage" in Massachusetts in 2004 and in the District of Columbia in 2010 forced Catholic Charities to terminate their adoption work in those jurisdictions.

The same thing happened in the President's own state of Illinois in 2011 in the wake of that state's adoption of "civil unions," which provide all of the legal rights and benefits of marriage available under state law to same-sex couples. By driving experienced faith-based agencies out of the adoption business, the Illinois' civil union bill would result in fewer adoption providers and thus leave un-served or under-served parents and children currently brought together by those faith-based agencies.

Sacrificing those who are already suffering is not new for the Obama administration. In 2011 the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops (USCCB) was informed they will no longer be a recipient of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services' (HHS) human trafficking grant funding. HHS made this decision despite the fact that USCCB received the highest grant proposal score and was recommended by career HHS staff. Annually the USCCB, one of the largest providers of relief in the world to those who are being trafficked, has received the grant award to provide necessary services to over 2,700 victims of human trafficking. Sources within HHS now say that the group that was picked over the more qualified USCCB program can barely handle one hundred victims despite receiving billons in taxpayer dollars.

You may ask, what happened to those trafficking victims not receiving help? They are just more "sacrifices" to the altar of the extreme Obama agenda.

President Obama's effort to make the Democratic Party hostile to tradition and religion is now being mirrored and enhanced by those who wish to succeed him one day. In Washington State, Democrats in the legislature want to make sure that every insurance plan not only covers abortion drugs and sterilizations (something President Obama insists be part of implementation of Obamacare); they also want people to be forced to pay for abortions, as well. In New York, Democrat Gov. Andrew Cuomo is pushing legislation that, as the New York Catholic conference describes it, "does not simply 'update' New York law or codify Roe vs. Wade. It would usher in extreme and sweeping changes to abortion policy in New York State." The bill could be described as House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi's (D-Calif.) dream legislation as it would eliminate any chances for parental involvement, allows non-physicians to perform abortions (ignoring the obvious health risks), and prioritizes abortion over childbirth.

Compare all this to a pro-life movement that believes, as science does, that human life begins at conception and such life needs protecting. The social sciences are also verifying millennia of tradition that the best family model for children and society is one headed by a mother and a father. Yet Mr. Obama and his allies target unborn children and want to redefine society in a destructive way. Now, what group are we calling extreme?
