'The Little Mermaid' News: Universal Studios Finally Found New Director
After six months of looking and considering, Universal Studios has finally found a director who will take over production as "The Little Mermaid" continues to work its way into fans' hearts.
Fans will finally see the widely acclaimed animation in live action. The Hans Christian Andersen fairy tale will most likely follow Disney's animated version, but since it will be live, fans should expect a twist.
Sofia Coppola left production six months ago after over a year of working on the project. However, things went a little intense within the team. According to Collider, Coppola and Universal Studios didn't agree with a couple of things including casting.

Despite the hiatus for six months, the movie is now most likely set to begin as The Wrap reports that Rebecca Thomas is currently in talks for the upcoming movie. While the director is still going to work on "Looking for Alaska," it is understood that she will have enough time to complete the said movie before moving on for "Mermaid."
Also, Richard Curtis is still working on the script, which gives Thomas more time to focus on the John Green adaptation before taking on a new project.
Meanwhile, Chloe Grace Moretz confirmed earlier last month that she will be playing Ariel in the movie. It is worth noting that Elle Fanning, who is being eyed for Thomas' current project, turned down Ariel's role earlier this month.
Moretz shared the news of her bagging the role to her Twitter fans. "Been waiting a long time to tell you guys !! #TheLittleMermaid going to be a beautiful experience! Can't wait to show everyone my Mermaid!" she tweeted.
The 18-year-old has recently starred in Stephen King's "Carrie" and will be seen next in the "Neighbors" sequel with Zac Efron and Seth Rogan.
Despite the movie not yet having a green light, production is expected to begin once Thomas has settled on a deal with the studio and Curtis is done with the script.
