'The Mentalist' Season 6 Spoilers: 'Star Trek' Actor Guest Stars, Spars With Jane

CBS' hit drama "The Mentalist" will see a confrontation between Patrick Jane and a certain "Star Trek" alum, according to spoilers this week.

On this Sunday's episode, Jane (portrayed by Simon Baker) and the FBI will try to clear the name of a death row inmate just days before his impending execution. Moreover, John De Lancie who appeared on "Star Trek" will play the widower of the woman who was murdered, "so he and Jane will square off over that," said executive producer Tom Szentgyorgyi, according to TV Line.

"John gives a spectacular performance, and was a great sparring partner for [Simon] Baker," Szentgyorgyi added.

Meanwhile, earlier this year, Lisbon (Robin Tunney) was introduced to a new love interest in Agent Pike (Pedro Pascal). Executive producer Bruno Heller discussed how the pair's dynamic will play out.

"In order for her to fulfill herself- even if she eventually fulfills herself with Jane, which she may or may not do- she has to find other relationships, other perspectives, other people who love her, just to feel fully who she is," Heller told Entertainment Weekly. "It's very important for her to be able to step away from Jane and see herself for herself."

Looking ahead even further, Tom Szentgyorgyi hinted that Agent Pike will be around until at least the very end of season six.

"Pike is with us through the end of the season, and he will become increasingly important figure in Lisbon's life, so Jane is wondering what he's feeling, because he's been the most important man in Lisbon's life- and suddenly he might not be," the producer told TV Line.

This week's installment is entitled "Silver Wings of Time." The synopsis on TV Guide is as follows: "A death-row inmate needs Jane's help to prove he's not guilty, and time is of the essence because the prisoner is scheduled to be executed in two days."

Airs on CBS Sundays at 10 p.m. EST.
