The race to challenge Trump: Biden strengthens lead in polls, endorsements

According to RealClearPolitics’ average of polls on the 2020 Democratic presidential nomination, Biden’s previously existing poll lead has greatly increased.

Before Biden announced his campaign, RCP found the former vice president in the lead among all the hopefuls, with an average of 30 percent support in March and 31 percent in April.

In data accessed Tuesday morning, Biden’s lead in the overall polling average has increased to 38.3 percent, putting him almost 20 percentage points ahead of second place Senator Bernie Sanders of Vermont (18.8 percent).

Behind Sen. Sanders is Senator Elizabeth Warren of Massachusetts at 8 percent, Senator Kamala Harris of California at 7.3 percent, and South Bend, Indiana, Mayor Pete Buttigieg at 7 percent.

Texas Democrat Beto O’Rourke, who was among the top five candidates at one time having 8.4 percent support last April according to RCP, has dropped to 3.5 percent.
