'The Vampire Diaries' Season 5 Spoilers: Stefan and Elena Explore Alternate Ending

Spoilers for this week's installment, entitled "Resident Evil," indicated that fans of the Stefan-Elena duo will love the "what-if" scenes, according to TV Guide. However, the scenes are just dreams that contribute to the twin prophecy, which will finally be explained to viewers this week.
Furthermore, "The Vampire Diaries" fans can look forward to seeing a familiar face this week. However, spoilers reveal that the return will not come with good news. Nevertheless, "Resident Evil" will mark the directorial debut of Paul Wesley, who portrays Stefan on the show.

"I knew I wanted to direct an episode of 'The Vampire Diaries' from the minute I got one of the lead roles," the actor admitted, according to TV Guide. "I just also knew it was presumptuous to ask any sooner than season four, so I asked at the beginning of season 4 and I got to do it in Season 5."
Meanwhile, executive producer Julie Plec previously provided some spoilers relating to Katherine this year.
"She's going to be at her best of no good," she told E! News. "The thing that's so great is that she's so into Stefan right now and so not into Damon right now, and yet Elena was about ready to remember her relationship with Damon, and Damon was all ready to win back his girl, so you can only imagine how that's going to go down. Katherine does some of the b-------- stuff as Elena in the next part of the chapter. It's great. Katherine at her most diabolical."
"The Vampire Diaries" airs at 8 p.m. EST Thursdays on the CW. The synopsis for this week's "Resident Evil" is as follows: "Stefan and Elena experience unsettling dreams of the life they might have had together; Bonnie has a disturbing encounter with Grams; Enzo searches for a woman he loved decades ago; Bonnie learns that Jeremy is working with Liv; Matt has a terrifying encounter with inhabitants of the Other Side."
