'The Walking Dead' Season 6 Spoilers: Negan 'Not A Psychopath,' Showrunner Says; Major Character To Finally Meet Death?
The long-awaited debut of Negan (Jeffrey Dean Morgan), the iconic baseball bat-wielding baddie from the "Walking Dead" comics, is almost here.
After confirming that the character will appear before Season 6 of AMC's "The Walking Dead" airs its finale, showrunner Scott M. Gimple talked about the role, telling TVLine that Robert Kirkman, the creator of the "Walking Dead" comics, has created "one of the great pop culture characters of the past 20 years." "And we desperately want to get him right," he said.
Asked about whether or not Negan will be more despicable than the loathed character "The Governor" (David Morrissey), Gimple answered, "In my opinion, The Governor is more despicable and damaged."

"Negan is terrifying in that he isn't a psychopath," the "Walking Dead" boss said. He explained, "He's charismatic and funny. And even sort of friendly… He's not nuts. But you can't reason with him because he's got it all worked out… Negan also has a bizarre sense of empathy. He actually recognizes your bad luck in you running into him, yet it doesn't change a damn thing."
Gimple's answers may have given some "The Walking Dead" and Negan fans comfort after news that many of the other characters surrounding Negan will show up before him in Season 6 and perhaps reduce his role from major villain to not-so-menacing sideliner.
"[Negan] just kills, and it doesn't bother him," Gimple revealed. "He's the star of his own movie and we're all Red Shirts."
Meanwhile, close watchers of the numerous "The Walking Dead" trailers teasing Season 6 have theorized that a major "TWD" character, namely, Glenn Rhee (Steven Yeun) may finally meet his end when Season 6 returns. In an intense scene in one of the trailers, Maggie (Lauren Cohan) is screaming out in terror. Could she be witnessing the death of Glenn, the father of her unborn child? Could Glenn's death be at the hands of Negan?
"The Walking Dead" continues it sixth season on Sunday, Feb. 14, on AMC.
