'The Winds of Winter' Release Date Latest News: Will the New Season of 'Game of Thrones' Spoil the New Novel?

With the sixth season of "Game of Thrones" expected to premiere in a couple of months, fans are still waiting for the sixth installment of George R.R. Martin's novel series titled "The Winds of Winter."

Martin had previously stated that he was hoping to release the upcoming novel before the premiere of "Game of Thrones" season 6. Past installments of the novel series had been available to fans prior to the premiere of the previous seasons.

However, it seems as though this will not be the case for season 6 of the HBO series. Martin previously explained the reason for the delay during the Santa Fe Independent Film Festival. According to Indie Wire, he stated, "In recent years, all of the work I've been doing creates problems because it creates distraction. I have travel plans constantly. It's like suddenly I get invited to travel to South Africa or Dubai, and who's passing up a free trip to Dubai?"

He explained that he does not write when he travels because he prefers to be in the comfort of his own home. That way, he will not be disturbed by anyone. He even hired assistants to make sure that he is not bothered while he works on his novel.

Martin recently posted an update about the novel on his Live Journal. He addressed the effect of the sixth season on the upcoming "The Winds of Winter." He stated, "Will the show 'spoil' the novels? Maybe. Yes and no. Look, I never thought the series could possibly catch up with the books, but it has. … Given where we are, inevitably, there will be certain plot twists and reveals in season six of 'Game of Thrones' that have not yet happened in the books."

While there has yet to be any news regarding the release date of the upcoming novel, fans can watch the sixth season of "Game of Thrones" this April 24.
