'Thor: Ragnarok' Spoilers: Stellan Skarsgard Confirms His Absence in Upcoming Marvel Title
According to reports, much of the events that are about to transpire in Marvel's upcoming big screen offering, "Thor: Ragnarok," won't be happening here on Earth. Instead, the latest sequel to the "Thor" movie franchise, which will now be under the direction of "What We Do in the Shadows" helmer, Taika Waititi, will offer fans a tour to the other areas of the Nine Realms.
Given the new setting, a lot of speculations pointed out that there might be fewer humans that will be involved in the movie. The recent evidence to the theory is the fact that Dr. Erik Selvig won't be joining the journey in "Ragnarok."
In an interview, actor Stellan Skarsgard, who plays the aforementioned role, told Den of Geek that he won't be making an appearance in the third and reportedly final Thor film. However, this doesn't mean that fans won't be seeing again the world-renowned astrophysicist in any of the future MCU films.
"I have a five-film deal with them, and they still have one option. … Thor 3 is not on my slate, but maybe the next Avengers," the 64-year-old revealed.
The Swedish actor may have meant Joe and Anthony Russo's next project, "Avengers: Infinity War," in his last statement. The directing duo previously teased that the big finale will feature quite a huge number of superheroes from the Marvel universe.
Selvig was introduced back in the original "Thor" stand-alone film where he was revealed to be the mentor of Natalie Portman's Jane Foster. His works and later his acquaintance with the God of Thunder (Chris Helmsworth) ushered him to become a significant support member of Nick Fury's (Samuel Jackson) SHIELD where he specifically worked in the Tesseract. His involvement with the superpowered and the gods of the other realms almost caused him to lose his sanity. As of the current events, Selvig is teaching in a university while at the same time assisting Earth's Mightiest Heroes whenever his expertise is required.
"Thor: Ragnarok" is slated to hit the theaters on Nov. 3, 2017.
