Tim Tebow Endorsed for US Congressman by Millennial News Site
A young conservative news site is making the case for Tim Tebow to take the seat of retiring U.S. Congressman Ander Crenshaw (R-Florida) in the House of Representatives.
The editors of Red Alert Politics, a website for young conservatives whose sister publications include the Washington Examiner and The Weekly Standard, wrote an editorial titled "Tim Tebow For Congress." Tebow has not made an announcement that he is running for political office.
The April 14 editorial makes the case why Tebow is qualified to become a congressman in Florida's 4th district, which includes the city of Jacksonville where he was raised. Although Tebow is best known for winning a Heisman trophy and two national championships at the University of Florida before having a short and now defunct NFL career, Red Alert Politics insists that his passion for helping others should overshadow his lack of political experience.

"If there is any chance Tebow could run, Republicans and the NRCC should actively recruit him and welcome him into the Party. While some might think Tebow could be 'the next Rick Santorum,' focusing mostly on social issues, Tebow would bring much more than that," the editorial contends. "He would bring a focus on fighting for the less fortunate and using creative solutions to eradicate poverty. He would also bring millennial appeal — and the right kind of millennial appeal."
According to the Red Alert Politics editors, the fact that Tebow is not a politician may be an asset.
"Tebow's non-political accomplishments allow him to say things politicians couldn't about culture and character," the editorial argues. "He would shake up the political establishment and would have no ties to special interests."
While there is no indication that Tebow is actually currently seeking to be a congressman, he didn't shoot down the idea of becoming a politician when speaking to Fox News last month. During his Tim Tebow Foundation golf tournament, Ainsley Earnhardt asked Tebow if he has thought about the idea of a future in politics.
"What about this election cycle, have you thought about politics," Earnhardt asked, according to The Hill. "You would be such a good role model for these kids."
Tebow didn't offer a definitive response.
"Well thank you. It's been crazy, hasn't it," he said. "It's been a whirlwind watching everything. Um, you know, I don't know about this time in my life…"
When Earhardt pushed the issue more by asking "you're saying there's hope," Tebow decided not to deny the possibilities.
"If there's a chance you can make a difference someday in something, then that would be intriguing," Tebow said.
The 28-year-old Heisman-trophy-winner-turned-SEC-College-football analyst now uses much of his time conducting motivational speeches and doing philanthropic work. When speaking to Northside Christian Church in Fresno, California, on April 2-3, the Christian athlete challenged people to become role models.
"You might think, 'I'm not a role model. There aren't these people that are looking up to me,'" Tebow said in his message, according to The Fresno Bee. "And my response to that is: There is probably someone who is looking up to you. … There is someone that their life is going to be changed because of you. The question is, 'Is it going to be changed for the better or the worse?' "
