Tim Tebow Says He Is 'Blessed' to Have Mark Sanchez

Tim Tebow, New York Jets' newest Christian quarterback, is a threat to the incumbent starting team QB Mark Sanchez, many are saying. However, Tebow and Sanchez seem to feel differently.

Skip Bayless, Emmy-nominated ESPN correspondent who has been vocal about his support of 24-year-old Tebow, recently said 25-year-old Sanchez will lose his position to the Jets newcomer.

"Mark Sanchez would turn into a basket case with Tebow as his backup. Then again, that would mean Tebow would turn into the starter," Bayless said. "This is terrible for Mark Sanchez, by no later than mid-season Mark Sanchez will crumble by having Tim Tebow waiting in the wings."

Many people have questioned Sanchez's ability, including his teammates, who reportedly went to the press to vent about the quarterback at the end of last season. A number of players anonymously told the New York Daily News that they were unhappy with Sanchez's performance last season.

One player called the quarterback "lazy," and spoke about a desire to bring in another quarterback.

"We have to bring in another quarterback that will make him work at practice," one player told the New York Daily News. "He's lazy and content because he knows he's not going to be benched."

However, Tebow seems to think he can work with Sanchez and is excited about the possibility. In an telephone press conference, Tebow admitted that he felt "blessed" to know Sanchez and opened up about the Jets' current starting QB reaching out to him.

"We talked, had a chance to catch up a little bit and had a great conversation," Tebow said. "We've been blessed to get to know each other over the last few years. I definitely have a lot of respect for him."

Mike Tannenbaum, New York Jets general manager, said Sanchez is anxious about acquiring Tebow and that the two quarterbacks will work well with one another.

"I don't think it will be an adverse effect. We really see it as a positive because again we think we're going to be much harder to prepare for and our focus internally, while we haven't seen the acquisitions, has been to put Mark in a chance to be successful and run plays, play action, and really shore up the run game and play to Mark's strengths," Tannenbaum said in a statement. "I know Mark's anxious, we're anxious, and Coach Sparano can't wait. The proof will be in the pudding but I would be really surprised guys if we didn't see significant improvement this year going into year four. Sanchez is transitioning in my mind from a young guy to a young veteran."
